The Doctor wasn't the sort to lose track of his surroundings, not usually, but every now and then, his impressive Time Lord brain got distracted. Well, truth be told, his impressive Time Lord brain got distracted all the time; it was simply an impressive feat to distract said brain so thoroughly that he was completely unaware of what was going on around him. The Doctor always noticed things, at least on a subconscious level. He noticed the young woman who approached him. How could he not? There was something about her, something that told him she didn't belong.
She was ginger, he noted idly. Everyone was ginger except him. That was terribly unfair. He'd always wanted to be ginger.
"Hello," he said, when she smiled and waved. "Is there something I can help you with?"
