"Oh. I thought you were offering it to me," he replied with feigned innocence. It was never something he was very good at feigning; all it really did was make him seem even more guilty than he had in the first place. However, even if he'd been able to pull off innocence convincingly, he didn't think Jaime would believe it.
She surprised a laugh out of him with her story about them being lovers, but he had wondered if people might think that. They were an unlikely pair of friends and if people didn't assume she was his daughter, he figured lovers was the next logical assumption.
"Don't worry. I'll be sure to confirm that we're sleeping together when they call to check on you," he promised as he lead her into his apartment and then began to give her a brief tour on the way to the guest room, pointing out the kitchen and the bathroom.
"And here's your room. It should be clean," he informed her, moving inside it to set down her dufflebag next to the bed. He'd actually gone out and bought new sheets for her since he couldn't even remember the last time someone had used the guest room.
