// Leanne Jones ([info]unrequitedjones) wrote in [info]silverage,
"Stay still," Martha commanded the man, who seemed like he was getting ready to protest. "I might not look it, but I'm a doctor, and I know what I'm doing. If you move, you're going to lose that arm. Especially with the medical ways of 1964."

To her surprise, the man's jaw dropped, but he otherwise shut up. "Don't move," she said as someone shouted at her. "Car crash!" she yelled back, running around the car to where the other man was. He had a kit with him, and Martha instantly relaxed. She was going to yell at him to stay away from the scene. "Did you get someone to call 911?" she asked, kneeling next to him. "What do you have in that kit? I've got a man in th'other car ... I had to use my shirt, he's got a piece of car stickin' outta him. Don't suppose you've got a blanket or anything that'll keep him warm? Emergency blanket?" A blanket made of tinfoil, even as a med student she'd never stopped marvelling over how simple it was.

This was 1964. She had no idea when 911 would show up. Especially with this snow. Better to just triage the situation here and hope they came soon.
