locke cole ([info]lockecole) wrote in [info]silverage,
They weren't the only ones who needed the warmth of a diner and a cup of hot coffee.

As soon as Locke had gotten off the slippery sidewalk, he dived into the welcoming mat and pushed the door open so fast, he might have come off as a drunkard and earned a couple of gasps and stares for one moment. "Sorry," he winced and stepped inside the establishment as meekly as possible, even going so far as to guide the door to close properly. Everyone ignored him after.

The place was packed, though! And as Locke approached the counter with Chuck the Keeper, his eyes scouted for any empty seat he might borrow for a couple of dry minutes. "Cup of coffee, please," he said to Chuck when he reached him and received his order within minutes. "I'll pay up later. I don't think one cup's good enough."

"If you got the money, help yourself," Chuck said with a shrug, then seemed to have turned his attention darkly to a red-haired woman by a seat near the sidewalk.

Of course Locke would turn to her direction as well -- and that was when he found that she had a seat free and he breathed in relief. Oh look, he didn't have to drink coffee standing. Tapping the counter once as a form of a goodbye wave to Chuck, he started towards the woman and cleared his throat upon his approach.

"'scuse me, but I see you've got one free seat right here," he began carefully, coffee cup in hand. "If you're not waiting on anyone, I was wondering if maybe you wouldn't mind if I sit here with you for a couple of minutes?" He smiled at her, too, just in case she was going to say no. Because he'd really appreciate a place to sit down in right now...
