Well, Peggy could certainly relate. High school hasn't been so much a walk in the park as it had been an embarrassing tumble, and she knew that the rumor mill at the office worked overtime whenever her name popped up. It was no use trying to convince people that she hadn't gotten her promotion as a sympathy move from Don after she'd had to birth and give away his child. Best thing was to ignore and simply not acknowledge anything that wasn't true. If Don managed, then so could she. And it was heartening to know, at least, that those rumors hadn't reached Lily. Maybe they'd slowed.
"It's hard to avoid, especially if you go to lunch with the others." And that was why she'd taken to mostly eating in her office if business didn't call her away.
"You're very lucky," she commented after Lily mentioned her travels. "I've never been away from this coast, while you've come across the ocean. Did you fly here? Mr. Draper and the others go on business trips a lot, always flying. Honestly, I'm not sure if I could force myself into one of those things. It's too much risk for something that's not necessary."
