"I talked them into it!" He shouted, logically knowing that now wasn't the best time to be yelling at Remus, but he didn't really know how to deal with this. He looked away for a moment, shaking his head. "I thought me being the secret keeper was too obvious. Who would believe we'd use Pete? You don't even believe it."

It would have been a brilliant plan if Peter hadn't betrayed them. He couldn't even consider that a consolation, though.

"I went to check on Peter, and... he wasn't there. Something wasn't right. It wasn't like Death Eaters had found him and taken him ..." It felt like there was something stuck in his throat and he tried to clear it.

"Lily's already said she'd try, but when you get back home, Remus, you have to change it," his voice had a desperate quality to it as he went on, "Talk me out of it, tell Dumbledore, find out why Peter would..." He clenched his hands into fists at his sides. "I don't know. Whatever you have to do."
