"There have been quite a few articles about we new arrivals. That, and the Welcome Center seem to be a major topic of discussion."
Susan nodded. "Only a week? I know it took me longer than that to even accept the fact I was unable to leave this place." As if she was really resigned to that fact, even now.
"I don't think the when part of it really applies. I'm from an entirely different world." She shrugged. "A different universe, they seem to call it in the newspapers. "An entirely different sort of world. Not as advanced as far as the technology goes, although there are a lot of similarities. But Myth and Magic are common, and there are many creatures that don't seem to have any equivalent. No lesser gods, and I certainly haven't found any major, if there are any here at all. Even death seems to be handled rather badly; no organization at all."
"What about you?" she continued. "Out of time, place, or both? By your accent, it doesn't sound like you are from New York. British? Your accent sounds like mine, and I've been thought to be British before. People seem to come from all sorts of both time and place these day. And I did have things I was supposed to be doing at home. It is almost time for the children to be heading back to school - I was a professor at a private school before I ended up here. What did you do before...?"
Among other things but best not to go into them now. Talking about her grandfather and death did seem to disturb people here. Oh, but she had mentioned death. Susan resolved to be more careful in what she said. No sense in upsetting this girl any more than she obviously was.
