Who: Bill Compton, Betsy Braddock
When: Wednesday night, just after dark
Where: Central Park
What: Bill emerges from the ground
Rating/status: Incomplete

The last few slats of sunlight had finally disappeared, and one by one, the streetlights of the city buzzed to life. The wealthier citizens of the city briskly headed home, stuffing hands into coats that were much too warm for the season, and the drunks and vagrants emerged from their various holes in the wall. It was a night like any other in New York City.

A few fingers poked gingerly from the soft ground of Central Park, in a secluded thicket of trees. They stayed still for a few moments, waiting. Suddenly, a dirt-covered hand, then an arm, and an entire man's torso emerged, clumps of earth and grass rolling away. Naked and vulnerable (well, as vulnerable as anyone would see this man), he stood, sensing the area for anyone who may see him.

He was fairly confident he was alone (though he had to admit, it had been a while since he had eaten and his senses were duller than usual). He dressed, brushing off what dirt he could. It would have to be another hotel. He sighed, resigned. He needed to find a basement to sleep in for a few nights - just for a few nights. With a clearing of his throat and a final hand run through his hair, he stepped onto the sidewalk and into the night.

OOC: Sorry about the first post, I miss read the Bill got dressed.

Betsy had no idea why she was hanging out in Central Park of all places late at night, but she couldn't stand being cooped up in her small brown stone apartment and she needed to take a walk to stretch her legs. Sure Central Park had a reputation for muggings after dark, but Betsy was more than capable of taking care of herself.

If anyone was foolish enough to try and rob her they would be one sorry wanker. Then again it wasn't like Betsy had anything on her worth taking. Her wallet was empty and aside from the clothes on her back and the small set of daggers she had slipped in her boots she wasn't carrying anything else. She kept her mind open to make sure no one snuck up behind her and so far so good, she wasn't picking up anyone nearby.

That's why she was so surprised when a man walked out of the woods and on to the street just a few paces from her. "Bloody hell." She exclaimed as she stepped back. It wasn't easy to scare Betsy but she wasn't sure how she'd managed to miss that he was nearby. "Sorry luv, I didn't see you there." She said regaining her composure.

Bill was easily as surprised by Betsy as she was by him. He felt his fangs about to emerge purely from the shock, but he forced them back. No sense scaring this girl any more than she needed to be.

"Excuse me, miss," he murmured, and began to turn. Yet something didn't sit right with him. A foreign woman? Alone in New York City at night? He turned, and cleared his throat.

"Miss? Excuse me, but are you sure it's quite wise to be out here by yourself? Do you have an escort?". He was sure she'd rebuff him, considering how filthy he was, but he would feel bad for not asking. There were sketchy characters about, he thought wryly, as he noticed her veins bulging just barely from her neck.

Betsy noticed there was something a bit differnt about the man standing in front of her. Aside from the fact that he'd somehow escaped her psychic senses, he seemed to be in something of disheveled state. She could see that though his clothes were timeline appropriate they were also covered in dirt. Poor bugger must be a tramp She thought. "No worries mate." She said as he turned to leave.

Then when he turned back and asked why she out and about without an escort she was caught off guard. Betsy couldn't remember a time when she ever needed an escort. When your a telepathic ninja, you rarely needed anyone around to look after you. And this was 1964 not 1864. Maybe this guy had been pulled from even further back in history than the year they were already in.

Her lips turned up in a slight smile and she cocked an eyebrow. "I guess chivalry isn't dead after all." She said "It's kind of you to ask luv, but I'm tougher than I look." she winked at him in a playful manner. It was temping to probe his mind, but Betsy decided against it. After all it wasn't very polite to invade someones mind without their permission.

Bill noticed the girl looking him over, and he immediately felt somewhat embarrassed. That was it. No more going to ground, if he could help it. He ran a finger across his cheek, and held it out with a sheepish grin, "My apologies for my countenance," he murmured, "I'm a bit of a nature lover."

He straightened, and tried to act dignified, at least. He was beginning to ache with hunger - he must've been starving, as this girl's hair almost looked purple in the light, though he knew that couldn't be right.

"I do try to be a gentleman, miss. And I appreciate that you can, well, take care of yourself." He resisted the urge to smirk. Women these days. Always thinking themselves tough.

He fastened his jacket, and resisted the urge to stick his hand through the gaps in the buttons. "Men don't do that anymore," he told himself, and realized he was probably already arousing this girl's suspicion. After all, he had come stumbling out of the trees covered in dirt. He brought the focus back to her as he covertly tried to brush off more dirt. "May I permit to ask what brings you to the park at night?"

Betsy shrugged. She mentally ran over the list of reasons she would be out this late. Boredom, apathy, general confusion about her current state of affairs. "Don't know." She said in response to his question. "Just needed to get out for a bit and stretch my legs." There was something funny about the guys mannerisms but she couldn't put her finger on it. Maybe it was the way he would occasionally glance at her neck, or maybe it was the way he wasn't sure how to compose himself.

Perhaps she should probe his thoughts if only to figure out what he was all about. She extended her hand out to him. Since they'd been talking for the last couple of minutes might as well introduce herself. "By the by, the name is Betsy." At the same time she opened her mind just a bit to see if she could catch his immediate thoughts. It was probably unnecessary but her curiosity was getting the better of her.

Bill smiled gregariously.

"I completely understand the need to get out," he chirped. And he did - he had once spent a winter night in 1942 walking from his home outside Savannah to Brighton Beach without even realizing it, and had to spend the day under a decrepit farmhouse. He had fed on a ranch hand the next night, almost until he died. He had had to glamor the man quite extensively, and was never quite able to erase the incident completely from his mind - Bill had taken a rather large chunk out of the man's neck.

With the memory of the ranch hand's blood (B positive, it tasted like) fresh in his mind, he made a conscious effort to stop staring at the girl's neck. These thoughts would be completely blank to Betsy, however - although he was not aware of it, and would not be for several decades, he and all vampires were immune to telepathy, though she could catch a few traces of emotion should she put forth the effort.

He took her hand, and gently brought his lips to it.

"William Compton. Bill." he replied, "Please, call me Bill." He straightened, and cleared his throat. "Are you headed any place in particular? I happen to be heading towards 59th and 5th, myself."
