"I'd be more than happy to, but -" he paused, unsure how to phrase it. He wasn't sure what was offensive these days, and didn't want to unnecessarily step on any toes. "I notice, miss, that you seem to be unescorted. And as I gather you are not quite familiar with the city, I'd hate to think of you becoming lost...even more so than you already are. Would you mind terribly if I hailed a taxi for you?"
There, that seemed polite enough. It's not like money was any object for him, though things certainly were more expensive these days than they had been in years past. A loaf of bread was more than fifty cents, nowadays, not that he was buying much bread.
