Her brow furrowed slightly at the abrupt shift. They'd been chatting and she'd thought they were having a nice conversation, and then ... clearly she must have said or done something wrong. She nodded though as he got his things together and rose to leave.
"It ... it was nice to meet you," she replied, and once he'd passed her, she lowered her eyes to her plate as she tried to figure out what she'd said, what she'd done. She wondered then if he'd be there tomorrow, where he'd said to meet her, and she had the queerest feeling he wouldn't be. She wondered if she should just not bother going to see, but she knew she'd forever wonder if she didn't check. Maybe he really did have somewhere to be and had just lost track of time and she was simply over-reacting.
It was possible. Her mental state wasn't the best just then. Shaking her head, she kept her eyes down while he paid his bill, and she reasoned she should be off herself soon.
