Not so long ago, the Doctor had said goodbye to Martha. He'd thought it was his last, or in any case, his last with this face and this personality. He was grateful beyond words that he'd been wrong.

While he'd promised on the bulletin board (and goodness, that was a strange system, one he'd have to investigate further at a later date) that he'd put on the tea in preparation for Marth's visit, he'd entirely forgotten to do so. Among other things, he'd have had to go back to the kitchen to do it, and he hadn't wanted to miss Martha when she came flying through those doors.

And come flying she did, only instead of sweeping him into a hug, as she might have done once upon a time, she stopped, as though uncertain of what to do. Well, they couldn't have that, could they? He spread his arms open in invitation, beaming, the image of his old, cheerful self in brown suit and overcoat and trainers.

"Martha Jones. Hello."
