She had barely enough time to utter a "Wha-?" at his retort before he shot another...erm, whatever it was at her. This time, it grazed her hip, knocking her yet again to her side (though mercifully, not the side of her broken ribs).
What the hell was this guy? An elf or something?
She decided to go on the defensive - whatever he was shooting at her, it was more dangerous than a whip was prepared to handle. With a deep breath, and her teeth biting into her lower lip to steel herself, she leaped onto a storefront awning. More starbursts in her eyes as she almost reeled backwards, but she made it. With another breath, she leaped from there onto a window ledge, letting out another groan. She crouched, and steadied herself with her hands between her bent knees. She peered down at the man. If he were looking closely, he could make out her eyes flashing in the darkness, but she would be practically invisible to anyone who happened to walk down the street.
"What did I ever do to you?" she shouted down at him.
