Mystique (formerly Raven Darkholme) ([info]mutant_proud) wrote in [info]silverage,
Nobody at the mansion was picking up the phone, and her connection bus to Westchester had a flat tire. Suddenly finding herself with hours to spare, Raven decided to go for a walk rather than stay cooped up inside the Port Authority terminal. It had been a while since she'd gone for a solo walk in a city, and granted, New York was very different from Oxford, where she'd often stroll the ancient streets to pass the time while Charles was in class, but the prospect pleased Raven all the more for it.

Exiting through the grand front doors onto 8th Avenue, she arbitrarily chose left and began walking her way North up the sidewalk. After a few blocks, however, she found herself getting bored of 8th Ave, so she decided to go a block over and walk up Broadway instead. Much better. Broadway was full of life, with brightly colored billboards and the flashing lights of theater marquees. Raven paused outside the Ed Sullivan theater, remembering happy nights spent gathered with the others around the television. I should convince Erik to buy a TV for the compound, she thought to herself, although she knew that he would never do it.

Her reverie was rudely interrupted as she found herself being grabbed at the neck from behind and dragged into a nearby alley. She tried to scream, but the hands around her throat were rough and strong. She couldn't see her assailant, but if he was anything like the other men in the alley-- strange, horned men crowding around a woman who'd just entered the alley through a side door-- then this was no ordinary mugging. The woman muttered something strange that Raven couldn't understand, and then all of a sudden was standing before her not in the street clothes she had been wearing a second ago, but in an elaborate magician's getup that looked somehow familiar to Raven.

Well, Raven thought, the hands still gripping her throat rendering her incapable of speech, if her cat's already out of the bag... Raven shifted into Hank's Beast form, her neck growing thick and sprouting blue fur. The man holding her was startled into loosening his grip, so she took the opportunity to kick him backwards, knocking him into the wall of the alley. She regained her balance and shifted back into her normal clothes, abandoning the blond disguise in favor of her true form. Executing a swift cartwheel, she landed by the fishnet-clad woman's side. "Mystique," she introduced herself, opting under the circumstances to skip the formality of a handshake, instead turning to face their strange attackers, readying herself in a defensive stance. "Do you know these creeps?"
