Tonks is proud of her name ([info]chromatophoric) wrote in [info]silverage,
From the gossipy women to the bloke with a copper on his tail, Tonks' attention swiveled in a near absent sort of way. The attention that she paid though wasn't absentminded at all. At first she was paying attention to see whether she could help out the police officer, again Auror training kicking in. However, after a moment of watching and that very particular look on the suspected man's face, the witch couldn't help but grin wryly.

She might have believed the man with the look of incredulity and the insistence that his person be searched, but a few missions with Mundungus Fletcher taught her better. Part of her, the mischievous part that enjoyed a goof-off, wanted to yell out something encouraging for the taller man. That was fighting against the Auror part that wanted to come up and get to the bottom of what really happened. Deciding it better to stay out of Muggle petty crimes for the moment, Tonks rearranged herself on the bench, bending so that elbows were propped on her knees and face placed within open palms, and continued to watch for a minute or two.

The cop seemed to back down at the accusation, also backing away from the personal space that the man accused seemed to ignore. Shaking her head a bit, she hopped off the bench (tripping a little as she did) and took a walk sort of close between the officer and the man. During this time, her wand was taken out serreptitiously, and a quick accio ring zoomed the item into her possession. Whether it was noticed was naturally dependent on where it had been previously, and the level of attention paid while the men were arguing. Tonks was banking on neither of them noticing, but she might have been cocky.

Either way, she had planned to play it cool for a few minutes and then go back over to the officer and claim that she found the ring as she had been walking. This way, it would clear the civilian Muggle and the woman who lost said ring would have it returned. But that was when Tonks noticed something a little unexpected. A lot unexpected. Thinking there was only one ring she had caught, she noticed that it was a multiple of them. Four, no five, rings that had been in a jumble because of the spell. Odd. And she had no clue which one was the one that they were talking about now. Staring in slight confusion, Tonks soon smoothed out her expression and played off the walking like she thought she had seen someone.

Rings in her pocket now, and looking dejected because the fake person hadn't arrived, she returned to her previous perch on the bench. From that point then, she minded her own business. Or at least tried to seem as if she was minding her own business.
