who: Tonks and Open what: Tonks snoops around the city. where: Starting at Fifth Avenue and going on from there. when: Thursday evening
After a few days in New York City, a few things happened. One, Tonks' natural penchant for exploring places kicked in. Two, her Auror sensibilities were tired of being placed on a sideburner and were out full-force, intent on figuring out what the city was about and why they were drawn to the place. And three, it was New York City. With the war in her midst at home, what was the chance that she was going to get to see the famous trans-Atlantic city anytime soon? Not bloody likely!
But it was her older friends and mentors in her head. Brighter hair colours were far more natural to the witch than her natural hair colour was, but this was America. Muggle America in the 1960's. She should, at the moment, at least try to blend in for a little bit. That was why she was running around the city (well, walking around the city) as a brunette for the evening. Still had short hair though, but it seemed to be in fashion. The witch was ahead of fashion still wardrobe-wise, but hoped that with her unmistakable accent, they'd chalk it up to England fashion. Maybe. At any rate, Tonks had managed to navigate the American Tube and found herself on fifth avenue.
It was fancy, really. A little too much for her taste, but she didn't mind so much. It was a chance to people-watch, which was just what she did. Climbing and perching atop a bench -- the actual top part, rather than where one would normally sit -- and humming to herself as she watched the people go by. She hoped to look unassuming, odd but unassuming, and idly wished for a pair of Fred and George's extendo-ears as she caught snippets of conversations going by. There was talk about the weather, which was warm, but that wasn't the interesting bits. What was interesting were the parts that sounded like they were talking about the Apparated. Strange people, they had called them. Gossip and rumours, though Tonks found it interesting; she also couldn't help the impish grin that appeared as she heard an older woman exclaim indignantly when her companion relayed information about women with ridiculously coloured hair, head tilting downward in hopes to cover it. At least they were giving the city something to talk about.
