It was sort of nice, hearing those of his family who had arrived chatting while he focused on the grill. Roxy and Charlie seemed to get along really well and he most enjoyed hearing them, glancing back over there every so often to catch Charlie's radiant smile. Gavin listened to them idly, reminded of somewhat happier times when they'd all met like this a few months ago. Amelia had been nine and Jasper had been safe; he hadn't known just how good he had it back then, despite everything. It was hard to do anything without thinking of Jasper and that sense of melancholy was always there. Amelia was inside talking to Bridget which probably should have been a little nerve wracking but he was finding it hard to have any strong emotions in any direction these days. He was a little distracted when she poked her head out through the door and informed him that Jules and her friend had arrived and judging by the way she arched her brows, well, Gavin wasn't sure what it meant. Something. She had a Look and he couldn't quite read it. "Bring'em out here," he said with a faint smile and a shake of his head and Amelia disappeared again only to appear with Jules and a tall young man in tow. It wasn't what Gavin had been expecting and there was a moment where he wasn't sure how to react to him so he focused on Jules, moving in to give her a little side hug with his free arm. "Glad you could come," he muttered, glancing back at her guest. He was not going to be weird about this but he couldn't help but wonder if this was a new boyfriend and he was absolutely not sure how to feel about that. Jules was young, she should move on, it just felt... sudden. "Hey," he muttered somewhat awkwardly, waiting on an introduction.
