“Lemme know when your parents are gone again, we can make that happen,” he told her mildly. It always had to be at Jules’s house, and he’d made that clear. His mother was nuts and not worth dealing with, and his baby sister was almost always around, so his place was a no-go most of the time. Jasper supposed he could take her to his dad’s when he knew the old man was at work, but that ... felt weird to even think about. Besides, Jules’s house was way nicer than both of his options put together. They’d had some good times there over the summer, and he was looking forward to lounging naked in luxury again soon. For now, Jasper climbed back into the front seat and rolled the window down enough to pitch the used condom out of it, then started rummaging for his cigarettes.
Jules rolled her eyes and slid her shoes back on. She watched him climb back into the front of the car and once she tied her laces, she gripped the passenger seat and used it to heft herself up and forward. She flopped down into the seat with a sharp exhaled and began digging through her bag for a hair tie. "Your mom can't possibly be home all the time," Jules said, once she found what she was looking for. She swept her hair up and back from her face, watching Jasper as she tied it quickly into a ponytail. "And my car on your street is going to be a lot less suspicious than your car on my street." And his car was loud, and she had always been a little paranoid that everyone on the whole block would hear Jasper Lucas driving through. She knew her house was a lot nicer than his, and they had a Jacuzzi and all that crap. But that didn't mean she didn't want to at least see where he lived, or what his room looked like. The more they hung out at her house, the higher the probability they would get caught, or Jason would come home or something. Would his mom really freak out as badly as hers would? Doubtful.
Jasper shot her an incredulous look. “You’d be surprised,” he muttered. His mother did work off and on, but she mostly lived on the money that his father fed to her from the bar. Gavin didn’t live with them anymore, but he did take care of pretty much everything financially for the household. Including slipping money into Jasper’s pockets. It was kind of gross and it made him angry sometimes, but Jasper still took it. “She still lives off my dad. She likes to stay home and drink and watch soap operas. And even if she’s not there, Amelia almost always is.” He kind of didn’t want Jules in his house. Thinking of her in his room made his guts uncomfortable in a way Jasper didn’t want to look at too closely. He was embarrassed of the place, and he hated being there. Bringing a girl into it -- especially a posh girl like Jules -- just made him uneasy. “That’s why I park down the street,” he added in a mutter. Jules had insisted that he not park directly in front of her house since the first time he’d come over. He tucked a smoke into his lips and lit it up, then started the car engine again.
Jules had no idea how much cash bars made, but she supposed when there was little competition in town, maybe Jasper's dad actually made enough to support Jasper's mom without her having to have a job, or whatever. But it still felt like a flimsy excuse, mainly because it meant Jules wasn't getting her way. She reached for the seat belt to snap it in place before grabbed her phone to check her messages. She had a few from friends, and one from her mom, asking where she was. Jules thumbed in a quick response and looked over at Jasper again. "So, what, you've like never had a girl in your room before? Ever? You just fuck everyone in your car? What about your dad's house?"
He did park down the street from her house, which helped ease some of her paranoia about her mom finding out what was going on, but it still felt a little weird to Jules that Jasper had been in her house and had seen her bedroom, and she only knew in a very vague sense where he lived. There was that whole being on 'uneven' ground or whatever. A level of unfairness that was probably insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but had been ballooned into something Important in Jules's mind.
