Cinder had spent the first couple of hours after sunset strolling on the beach. Then she'd drifted into town to find something to eat. It was easy enough - now - to know where one was likely to find lost money, or things to pawn, or sell to someone more interested in them than she was. Eventually, she'd find somewhere to work, but for the time being she was no stranger to being homeless. On the weekends, it was easy enough to prowl into a diner after a late dinner rush and find the half-sandwiches abandoned on plates after the customer left but before staff had had time to clear the table. It wasn't exactly her favorite way to do things, but she'd had to adapt to a lot of things since she'd fled Paris. Scrounging for food was but one of them. Barefoot still, clad in the same white dress she'd been wearing every night since her arrival, Cinder drifted down the sidewalk. She knew, now, that the town pretty much shut down after ten, but it was typical for a small town. It was going to make finding a job interesting - and she had to do something for money eventually, and she'd prefer not to turn to selling herself. If she was any sort of artist, she'd try that, but her skill hadn't fallen that way. Stopping in front of the theater, she tipped her chin back to read the names of the movies advertised. She had little intention of going in; even if they were open, she couldn't afford anything. Even if they were open, it wasn't likely the sort of place that hired people who couldn't prove their name or age or anything else. Exhaling softly, Cinder looked around the nearly deserted sidewalk and considered her options for the evening. |
