Who: Romantically Unattached Humans
Where: Haven
When: Valentine's evening
What: spur of the moment singles mixer.
I'll be celebrating Valentine's Han style...Solo.
Even if he and Silas hadn't decided at ten o'clock Saturday evening that they would hold a party for Valentine's less than twenty-four hours later there probably wouldn't have been much difference than if he'd had week or even longer to plan. Maybe ore hearts cut out of construction paper but that was it and that was just a maybe.
Haven didn't have anything booked, which wasn't unusual given the holiday, so the main room was free to use, both physically and monetary wise. Killian bought a keg but he wasn't a big drinker so he hoped other people would take the initiative to bring their own booze if they wanted to get drunk. There was a large wicker basket set up on a table near the door for people to deposit their "cover charge", or one valentine's gift. He put a wrapped pair of edible underwear in it himself when he'd first come in. Pandora made it easy to provide music and the television networks did their part by broadcasting romance movies all day. He let them play on the large television screens on mute so as not to interfere with the music. A short stack of pizza's dominated the food table along with some cans of soda, chips, a fruit and vegetable tray, and some pastries he'd taken from Perked's freezer. Thaw and serve.
Leaning back against a wall, he watched the soundless screen, a solo cup of beer in his hands. He'd dressed in a gray t-shirt with a silhouette of a cat standing on distressed letters. Real Men Love Cats it said and over it a black cardigan sweater, unbuttoned, with a small golden heart emblem on the left side. Lean denim clad legs stretched out in front of him, one foot crossed over the other as he let the wall and his shoulders support his weight. While he was watching the movie, he was also watching the clock. This was his and Silas' idea, more Silas' than his, but his friend wasn't there yet. He better show up and he better be on time. He couldn't think of anything more awkward than hosting a singles party on his own.
