Summary: Response to my own drabble challenge back in January: write a drabble using the line “"Sev, just come back to bed," Harry muttered sleepily.”
A/N: Another that I posted to the yahoo group but never anywhere else, and never titled or saved to my hard drive. xD Original A/N: Okay snow challenged me to respond to my own prompt, with a deathfic. I have done as she requested, but the only way I could think to do was like this- and she's going to hate it. All I have to say to that is be careful what you wish for! Also I was experimenting with a different writing style than usual. So if the "there was a"s got repetitive... Well, I was trying something new. : )
There was a loud crash, followed by the sound of a sharp gasp and aluminum spinning on the floor.
"Sev, just come back to bed," Harry muttered sleepily, rolling onto his side and reaching out into the air.
There was a sound like a choked sob, and a rustling of robes as Hermione buried her face in Ron's shoulder.
"It's been two years, Professor," Ron said, holding her close and holding back tears of his own. "Will he ever recover?"
There was a small crinkling noise as Dumbledore reached into his pocket for a lemon drop, and then seemed to think better of it.
"I don't know, Mr. Weasley," he said, sighing heavily. "I just don't know. Ever since Severus..." He couldn't bring himself to finish, and Hermione shook in her husband's arms.
There was a grunting noise from the bed, and Harry's features twisted into a frown. Dumbledore bent over and picked up the tray Hermione had knocked over a moment ago.
"Severus always told me he couldn't live without Harry. It seems the reverse is also true. Finding himself without the love of his life, so suddenly, and having known precious little in his life... I don't know that I wouldn't have turned to insanity as well."
There was a moment's silence, and then Dumbledore put his hand on Ron's shoulder.
"Come, go home and rest. He'll still be here when you return." Hermione wiped her eyes, and the three exited the hospital wing together.
And there was only a ray of moonlight shining through the window, highlighting Harry's troubled features as he slept through another troubled night without his lover by his side.
