Harry rolled over and let out a sleepy groan, the sound of quill scratching against parchment tugging him into wakefulness. He blinked blearily at the clock until the numbers came into focus and then sighed, throwing an arm over his eyes.
"It's three in the morning, Severus," he said, his voice still thick with sleep. "What are you doing?"
The steady rhythm of the quill paused for only a moment before picking back up again. "I figured out how they escape the tunnels," Severus said distractedly. Harry opened his eyes again and looked over at Severus' hunched-over form, affection winning out over the annoyance he was trying to muster. "I need to write it out before I forget."
Harry hummed in acknowledgement and yanked some of the covers back over to his side of the bed. It was possible the chill of the dungeons had contributed to waking him—Severus had always been a blanket hog. "When are you coming back to bed?"
Harry didn't need to see Severus' face to visualize the long-suffering expression he was wearing at the moment. "I haven't the slightest idea, Harry," he replied. "Writing can't be rushed, you know that."
"All right," Harry murmured, already falling back into sleep. "Put some socks on before you get back in, all right?"
Severus hummed noncommittally, and Harry curled up in his newly appropriated covers—still warm from Severus' body heat, which meant his lover would be a while—and released a contented sigh. He closed his eyes and let the rhythmic sounds of Severus' writing and the warmth around him lull him back to sleep.
