He really needed to spend less time in library. Amaury had been there practically all afternoon, not to mention the inordinate amount of time he spent there on other days. He was fairly certain that he already knew where most of the books were and which chairs to avoid because of wobbly legs. He would have been ashamed of the fact if he didn’t know that all of the time he spent there paid off with high marks. Still, it was slightly embarrassing.
But at least he had a valid excuse for being there now. What with the new STD project, he didn’t really have much other choice; it wasn’t like he owned the books and it seemed unfair to check loads of them out when other students needed them too. Maybe not everyone exercised the same curtsey, but it made sense to him. He had spent all afternoon on this project, and he was pleased to realize that he was nearly finished. And it was, in his opinion, quite good. He smiled to himself, feeling proud of all of his hard work. Admittedly, he looked a little disheveled at the moment- there were ink stains on his hand and his hair was sticking up a bit from where he ran his fingers through it- but he didn’t mind especially. At least he got a well down assignment out of it. He wasn’t entirely sure if he could say the same for Vivienne- he didn’t even know if she had really worked on her half yet- but he wouldn’t mind doing it for her if it came down to that; he’d rather just do more work even if that meant that she didn’t get anything out of it if it got them a good grade. Failure was not an option, kthnx.
See? And people thought he didn’t belong in Slytherin.
He briefly stretched his arms above his head, flexing his fingers to un-cramp them. It was then that he noticed a Ravenclaw girl staring blankly at the shelves, looking out of her element. Normally, he wouldn’t bother with conversation in the library with someone he didn’t know, but she looked so genuinely confused that he couldn’t help himself as his hero-complex set in. “Are you alright? Need some help? You look rather lost,” he called, smiling good naturedly at her.
