Mary was packing a few things from her old apartment to move into Mephisto's place. Humming as she folded clothes into a suitcase, she all but danced around the hardwood floors. She mostly wanted to make sure all of her sentimental things came to her new home with her - as well as her cooking supplies. She fully intended to spoil Mephisto by feeding him as many wonderful things as she could.

After his stint dealing with Limbo, he'd dropped off a small bonsai tree for the dead priest and headed to Mary's. He figured he'd look in on her, and if he could get a cuddle or three, that would be nice.

However, when he stuck his head into Mary's living room, she wasn't there. Everything looked clean as usual, but she'd left some dishes on the counter. That made him blink. He teleported to Raziel's home, intending to ask if he'd seen her. "Brother?" His downstairs looked deserted, too. Goddamn it. "Brother? It's Gabe, you here?"

But that was several days ago. He gave his word to Mary, amidst soft kisses and over held hands, that he would be sure to sleep each night, no matter how wrapped up in work he'd get. And that he'd eat, too. He had felt like he finally was living again, and with very little protest, he brought Jaspre to the institution like he'd been planning, asking them to keep her on a low dose of what Americans called 'thorazine', or something similar. And finally, for the first time since his first week as a human, Mephisto's home was his own. He had called Mary to tell her the new of to that effect, and asked if she'd like to come help him find furniture for the still-unfurnished rooms. He'd only just come into the home, and he had no idea what to get for a regular human home. Castles were one thing, but a proper, cozy home? His last real experience with one had been before the advent of electricity.

So, in essence, there's a fallen angel standing in his empty dining room, summoning and unsummoning dining room sets from lord-knows-where, trying to decide which one pissed him off the least.

Mary was seated on a bench in the park, legs akimbo, reading a book while munching on some carrot sticks. The sun was shining, and between people watching and reading, Mary was content. She smiled at a few small children as they walked by. Without really knowing why, they were drawn to her, scrambling over the grass to get hugs. And Mary was only too happy to provide them, beaming at their mother and letting them know how adorable the little ones were.

Once the kids left, Mary resumed reading - a battered copy of Little Women - and she hummed to herself under her breath.
