It's Natasha's world, we're just living in it.

Solicits for the three - count 'em, three - Black Widow comics gracing the shelves in December of this year.

BLACK WIDOW: DEADLY ORIGIN #2 (of 4)
Written by PAUL CORNELL
Penciled by TOM RANEY & JOHN PAUL LEON
Cover by ADI GRANOV
Before the world falls in love with her in Iron Man II, learn how it all began for the Black Widow! As Natalia Romanova races across the globe to uncover the mystery behind the threat targeting everyone she's ever loved, Clint Barton faces death! Plus: Tony Stark, the Crimson Dynamo, the Winter Soldier, and even Nikita Kruschev get caught in the Widow’s wicked web of intrigue, espionage and danger!
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$3.99

Gratuitously-low zipper aside, that's one of Granov's stronger covers featuring actual people.  Nice use of the colour contrast to make her really stand out from her surroundings.

BLACK WIDOW & THE MARVEL GIRLS #1 & 2 (of 4)
Written by PAUL TOBIN
Pencils by SALVA ESPIN (issue 1)
Pencils by JACOPO CAMAGNI (issue 2)
Covers by SALVA ESPIN
She's the most efficient spy in the world and one of the world's deadliest women, but before there was ever a Black Widow, there was the Red Room, a brutal KGB training ground for assassins, undercover agents, and the most ruthless of spies. Now, tasked with removing a rogue weapon's dealer from an impregnable safe house, the Black Widow remembers her escape from the Red Room training facility, an escape only made possible with the aid of the most unlikely of allies, the Asgardian sorceress known as Amora...the Enchantress.
THEN IN ISSUE 2, fitting in with the Avengers is not an easy job, not for a woman with no true powers beyond years of training and a ruthless ambition to succeed at any given task, and after a midair battle separates the Black Widow from the rest of her team, the mission to protect an advanced robot just got harder. Luckily, the Black Widow has her skills on her side, and the Avenger known as the Wasp at her back. Unluckily, the robot's owner is Dr. Doom, and Latveria's despotic ruler will stop at nothing to reclaim his own.
32 PGS. (EACH)/Rated A ...$2.99 (EACH)

Exiles made me a big fan of Espin's art.  Paul Tobin's the third of the three principal Marvel Adventures writers, and seems to be following Parker and VL into the MU propler, where the sales are higher and paychecks larger.

Based on the first cover, the second two issues will feature teamups with She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Woman (the latter two, I'm assuming, as a duo in the same issue).

This is what getting a supporting role in a move can get you, B-listers.  It's smart that Marvel is printing these so that the collected editions will be in stores for the movie's release.

Is it just me, or does Natasha look like Kate Hudson in that first cover?

I started seeing Gwyneth Paltrow a tiny bit, but Kate Hudson is a ringer. Motto for you.

Doom looks like a vacuum cleaner with wide-area attachment.

Borrowed Catwoman's costumed from... more or less every single Adam Hughes cover he did for her series.

Damn, I thought all this "Natasha's the new Logan!" thing was supposed to be a joke. Still, it means something with Jan in it and the creative combo of Exiles and MA, so I can't whine. (Please be good, please be good, please be good...)

If the covers reflect the interiors, this may not be meant to be in-continuity, otherwise Wasp's costume is totally out of place.

Well, with MA Jan getting written out of the picture, 616 Jan dead, and Ultimates Jan either getting replaced, mindwiped, or made even more dark and edgy, I'll take any Jan I can get, "canon" or not.

Oh, I agree, I was just noticed that. Possibly it's one of those vaguely-related-to-continuity series, a la X-Men: First Class.

You should be able to find clips on youtube. (That's how I learned everything I know about the show)

Let's just say that she keeps her ammo in her *ahem* tracts of land and reloads by gainaxing

"learn how it all began for the Black Widow!"

Grr ... I *know* how it all began -- I've read the Tales of Suspense issues that introduced her! So, how badly will her origin be retconned? I mean, aside from showing a modern costume and not her original one ...

As opposed to all the other times they've played around with her origin?

Cornell's pretty good with continuity; from what I understand, the past stuff mostly relates to scenes from Natasha's various relationships.

In the best tradition of 19th century Russian literature, it;s both. Her full name is Natalia Alianovna Romanova; "Natasha" is sort of the Anglicized name she uses.

If you're really lucky, you can end up with a nickname that's much longer than your given name!
