Marvel's Next Event: The Siege

IGN has revealed with there advance Marvel solicitations that Marvel's next big event is The Siege. Three solicitations under the cut.

SIEGE: THE CABAL
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Penciled by MICHAEL LARK
Cover by DAVID FINCH

THE SIEGE STARTS HERE!!

Remember when you were first introduced to the Cabal, the gathering of the most sinister members of the Marvel Universe, and you said to yourself: Well, that's going to blow up in everyone's face! Well, you were right and it happens right here!! Norman Osborn faces off with Doctor Doom and his mysterious threat to Doom is revealed. All of this is setting the stage for next month's explosive event: SIEGE!

48 PGS./One-Shot/Rated T+ …$3.99

ORIGINS OF SIEGE
SIEGE is almost upon us! And this special giveaway issue contains everything readers will need to prepare themselves for the ultimate conflict to hit the Marvel Universe, six years in the making! Showcasing an ALL-NEW lead-in story featuring Loki, the God of Evil, ORIGINS OF SIEGE also contains an ALL-NEW origins section covering all of the major players in the battle, as drawn by the biggest artists at Marvel, as well as pinups and a checklist so you don't miss a single important issue. All that and a preview of SIEGE #1! It's time!

32 PGS./Rated T+…FREE (retailer note: it is only free if distributed on Dec. 30th)

This is apparently the Siege of Asgard event that made JMS leave Thor because of the forced tie-ins and that Quesada tried to deny there were plans for.

THOR #605
Written by KIERON GILLEN
Pencils & Cover by BILLY TAN

The invisible hand of Loki's sly tricks has made plain the treachery that lay in store…and after the devastating events of THOR: DEFINING MOMENTS GIANT-SIZE and THOR 604, everything comes to a head! The volatile balance of power in Latveria is tipped, and all sides march toward all-out war!

32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

I do appreciate Marvel Comics ability to admit when they were wrong. It's awfully enlightened, and quite rare, to see a superorganism being humble like that.

I don't think it's a case of Marvel admitting they were wrong, as it seemed pretty clear from the get-go that it was going to implode in on itself with everyone planning on backstabbing each other.

To DC and Marvel:

Stop making elongated events. You have worn the gimic down to next to nothingness. How may times can the Earth/Universe/Mutliverse/Platapus be in such terrible danger in the span on a decade?

While I dislike their marketing, I don't really mind the "meta narrative" of the Marvel U. They also tend to switch which comics gets involved in these events a fair bit (IE: First a big Avengers event, then a big X-men Event, etc.) So it tends to be not *quite* as bad as it seems.

I know it's not quite what you mean: but in my comics, I hope the Earth is in danger every few months! That's the fun of it.

Depends on how it is written and what the continuity is like, this may go either way.

I like how Dr. Doom, Iron Patriot, and Loki are battling it out with super-science and magic... and here comes the Hood with his handgun. Really thought that strategy through, didn't you, Hood?

There hasn't been a major crossover since SI ended; that's a year, more or less (Dark Reign is a banner/status quo, not an event; to the extent that there's a central story to follow, I suppose it would be in Bendis' various books). And, depending on how big this is, it might not compare to that in size either. Quesada's talked a lot about moving to smaller, more localized crossovers.

Anyway, I'd say that the end of the DR status quo does need an event-type finale, since it affects everyone.

Be interested to see what role the heroes play in this.

Damn, Marvel, stop with these events! Don't you see that they sell better than regular issues?! I mean, you're a charitative organisation, so stop trying to make more money!!

Remember when you were first introduced to the Cabal

Sure I do! I remember thinking several things!

1) "Gee, this'll lead to at least two events."
2) "Huh, they advertised Namor in this, but why is Steve Buscemi dressed as Namor and hanging out with the worst of the worst?"
3) "Isn't Emma acting out of character? When did she act like a scared thirteen year old?"
4) "Why did they have to bring back The Hood?"
5) "Hm, wonder what's going on over at DC? Oh, another event. Wonder what's going on in non-Big Two books. Oh! Self contained comics with one creative team and a general direction for said books. Awesome. I'll spend my money on those until the events stop."

Origins of Siege....isn't that Dark Reign? Do we need a prelude to an event that is basically just a simple continuation of the former event?

Why can't Norman just go away....forever? There have been too many crossovers in the recent years....just get back to comics without crossovers k?

YAWN.

I am so sick of both companies having all their books focused on fitting into these things. I'd hate to be a comics writer at either place right now whose name is not Bendis, Johns or Morrison.

You should not have to buy a whole line in order to understand the comic you're reading.

I thought they said no more 'events' for at least a year
