Preview of Marvel in December

Ah, solicits-time approaches.  In the first batch of previews, the solicit for that month's Incredible Hercules, the third part of "Assault on New Olympus", from marvel.com.

INCREDIBLE HERCULES #139
Written by GREG PAK, FRED VAN LENTE & JEFF PARKER
Pencils by RODNEY BUCHEMI & GABRIEL HARDMAN
Cover by MICHAEL BIEREK
"ASSAULT ON NEW OLYMPUS," Part 2 (of 4)
Hercules leads the New and Mighty Avengers against the overwhelming forces of Hera's New Olympus -- but these are no ordinary foes our heroes face, but the gods themselves! Can the superpredator Wolverine outfox an immortal Huntsman? Can Spider-Man out-webspin the divine Arachne? Can Henry Pym outgrow the giant Argus? And with his love Delphyne Gorgon prepared to slay his mentor Athena, Amadeus Cho must make a final, fateful choice!
40 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Weirdly, there's no description of the backup feature with the Agents; there was in the previous one.

Can't recall any previous covers by this guy, but that's pretty stylish; sleekly minimalist.

Delphyne's fighting Spidey on the cover instead of Arachne, presumably because the former's a preexisting character that readers of the book would recognize (also, Spidey's got what is potentially a very good look up (or down) her skirt from that angle).  On the subject of Arachne, one assumes Hera gave her some kind of upgrade, 'cause in all the tellings of that story that I've read, Athena doesn't leave her in any state that would qualify as "divine" or remotely capable of combat.

I think Huntsman could have stood a more thorough redesign, though; his haircut undermines him being taken too seriously.

DELPHYNE GORGON! I've missed you! :D

Well, maybe Arachne is a giant spider a la Shelob.

Against a guy with mutton chops and hair that resembles mammalian ears... wasn't that haircut popular in the 90's? Guy Gardner seems once sported the look.

Guy Gardner, who like me, is a former Marine, had a high and tight. Granted it's not the most stylish haircut, but it only costs about $2.50 on base, so ... Marines, we're a frugal bunch.

John Stewart was a marine, pretty sure Guy Gardner wasn't.

Actually, you got it reversed. True, in the retcon, Stewart is a Marine, but prior to that Gardner is the only DC Marine. (Now, of course we have Magog, but DC can keep him.)

Ah, no. Gardner was never a marine. He was a social worker/special ed teacher and a former college football star.

Maybe I'm just high. If I'm wrong I apologize, but I thought his Marine (and by the way it's always capitalized) history was brought out in JLI.

Sailor, airman, soldier are lower case. Marine is upper case as is Coast Guardsman.

Ah, didn't know that.

But yes, I'm betting on intoxication. Guy Gardner =/ Marine.

They all look strangely like action figures. I keep expecting to see seams at the shoulders.

Assault on New Olympus is only 4 issues huh? Not that I'm complaining of course, I like these mini crossover events over the major ones.
