A big head in a little town
The mighty MODOK has returned and this time, he's set his sight on... his old home town!
But what are his demands?

So, once in town, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Pancakes decides that he might as well go and visit his High School Reunion. Unfortunately, that does not go over too well:

Poor guy. I guess a nerd with deadly Mind Blasts and a Rocket Chair is still just a nerd. Anyway, his old high school bullies decide they haven't given ol' Georgie a hard enough time yet, so they hire the cheapest Super Hero available: Alpha Flight's very own Box!
Who, like all good Canadians, goes off in a murderous rampage when his wife insiuates that MODOK does not care for his favourite Hockey team:

They face off at the local mall, where MODOK was just in the middle of announcing his plans for World Domination. How rude! Unfortunately, the two equally ~~pathetic~~ fearsome adversaries knock each other out and the Mall Cops bust them. But just when you think the day could not get much worse for everyone's favourite Mental Organism, the Fates look kindly upon his big, beautiful head:

And there you have it! Evil doers, poachers and jaywalkers beware! There's a new sheriff in town and he'll Mind Blast you... for justice!

	What? No. Marvel cancelled Bullpen Bits in favor of Marvel Super Hero Squad, which it uses to sell the toy line of the same name. This is a completely unrelated one shot. Dunlavey is a frequent collaborator of Van Lente, so I imagine he got the job through him. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

OK, this is pretty funny. I especially love the last page what with "GASP! A REAL COP!", and "Top Story: DEER SEASON ONLY 6 WEEKS AWAY!", the latter of which honestly reminds me of my local paper. Small-town newspapers have insanely little to talk about. (Mine frequently resorts to something along the lines of 'Top Story! Here is how one particular vineyard owner waters his grapes, as opposed to last Wednesday's headliner, which was about how ANOTHER vineyard owner waters his grapes. This is a different guy - he lives next door from the other one. No similarities. Really.' I'm exaggerating, but not by much.)
Also, why's everyone looking down on Box? From what I remember, he's a fairly effective hero, with an interesting superpower. (Also, the artist messed up - as I recall, Box does NOT form junk around himself like a suit of armor. Instead, he forms machinery into his Box-form, then phases into it and manipulates it from inside as a literal 'ghost in the machine'.)
