I could see a retired Vic, just hanging out in Nanda Parbat or wherever. I believe that before it became obvious they were killing off Vic in 52, but after Vic/Renee had become a hit with readers one of the theories was calling them "The Question & The Answer" (the last being what Vic was always asking Renee if she found).
Got to admit, I loved them together. It's not often you see such a strong non-sexual relationship between a non-related attractive male and female in comics or modern media in general. When Renee tells Charlie (as he's hallucinating she's Myra) that she loves him, it's the truth. It didn't matter she was a lesbian who was not into him that way or that he was a cryptic dying guy with no face. One of my favorite moments in comics ever.
