The Anachronox... erm, the Anachronauts!
It only stands to reason that a space/time jumping villain would cherrypick his Miniboss Squad (not much Quirky with these guys) from the best all the realities offer him, doesn't it?
(more or less, the Avengers and Fantastic Four have just paid a visit to Timely, Wisconsin to track down Kang... and ended up in the fictional Chronopolis that isn't running on Mother Brain circuitry.)
oh, Hercules.
oh, force fields.
oy, sittin' cushions.
so here's two of them, Raa (apparently an alternate Ulysses Bloodstone) and... well, no points for guessing it's one of those damn Ebony Blade wielders.
okay, that's a solid base so far.
next up, Wildrun, " first of the Red Wolves " (basically, sometimes a Cheyenne wolf spirit or something empowers people) and Tyndar, who.. bathed in the River Styx. Rather hope he made sure to test the waters with his heel first...
and no, Hercules's gift is not his dick.
Ssith, one of Set's little serpent freaks, and.. yup, it's a Black Knight!
Also, Deathhunt 9000 (oy), who may or may not be from 2099.. he also brought along his own little cyborg strikeforce, but they'll show up in War Machine... and die.
and to round out the team... Apocryphus, who is apparently an Eternal.
anyhow, the fight rages for a bit more, until Raa seemingly gets the drop on Doctor Druid, who is there.
or did he?
while Kang works out his whatever with Ravonna, the captured heroes break free and go another round with the Anachronauts:
well played, Sersi.
equally well played, Thing.
" fffffuckeeeeeerrrrr.... "
anyhow, more Kang and Ravonna stuff happens, and if that's your bag, check out Avengers Annual 21... this's 9 scans, from a 27 page story.
so Ravonna ends up running the show, so to speak, which the Anachronauts don't seem to cotton to too much in the Terminatrix Objective:
(Terminatrix Objective's pretty neat, if not just for the descriptions of Chronopolis and some Victor Timely fun.)
and then the Anachronauts had to ensure the Ebony Blade was created by stopping the familiar looking Incinerators from doing bad things with the ore that would be used to forge it (with Ravonna along for.. a reason):
(hatman's Professor Justin Gamble, an eccentric time traveller who's hung out with some of history's more interesting figures and contended with temporal threats. Hmmm...)
the Incinerators really oughta reinforce those domes.
ultimately, Gamble more or less pushes a button and the Incinerators go poof.
and... that's about it. they'd turn up in Force Works, and then get dead by Immortus. Still, they're a pretty decent set.
