There are plenty of people whom I'd call "hero" in RL, the term existed long before the superhero genre.

No, but there is no doubt in my mind that he fully expected Dick to be a cop who doesn't kill, not even in self-defence. Sure cops do kill if they have to, but not Dick, oh not him!
So basically Bruce can't win, here.
Likewise, there is no doubt in my mind that Batman would stop very hero in the world from using guns if he could. He can't, but he would if he could. So it's lack of power, not respect for other heroes' methods, that's stopping him.
I'd believe that if Bruce hadn't been shown to be on friendly terms with people like Ollie or Roy, or if he hadn't been the one asking Superman to shoot on Diana when she was blinded as part of the League's testing her.
