Re: Mod note Oversensitivity in a person who isn't part of the group who is supposedly being attacked can feel a bit patronizing.
So, you're offended that I'm offended? ;)
I actually get what you're trying to say here, and far be it from me - as someone who's admitted to being non-Jewish throughout this discussion - to tell an actual Jewish person how he should feel about this.
In a sense, though, what really galls me about this is that it's part of a PATTERN of surprising insensitivity - not just toward Jewish people, but toward any number of groups - that Marvel has displayed (see also: the companion post to this one, that I linked on the other comm). If this was an isolated instance of WTF stupid, I'd probably be more inclined to say, "WTF, but oh well, I hope they learned their lesson," and move on.
The problem is, I don't think it is. The way I see it, the guys running Marvel have been acting like drunken fratboys for a while now, by casually tossing out profoundly thoughtless bullshit and then going OMG WHAT ARE YOU THE PC POLICE whenever they get called out on it. The fact that they were stupid enough to call two Jewish WWII veterans "The Final Solution" is shocking, but if followed by a sincere and highly public apology, would by itself simply be a "Okay, your brain fell out, but don't let it happen again" moment. But this comes right on the heels of Brevoort basically saying that the American comics market equals white men, and oh well, what are you gonna do about it? Which follows things like the Heroes For Hentai cover, and an entire non-stop shitload of sexually and racially tone-deaf bullshit dating back to at least Bill Jemas launching "Bad Girls For Fanboys."
It's no longer just an isolated instance, and it hasn't been for a long time now. It's a PATTERN, and even if you don't object to this example individually - and again, I'm not the oppressed party, so yes, that's your call - what I'd hope you'd see is that it's not just your group that's been subjected to their insensitivity here.
