But you look at Dinah and you get this black boots, black leather thing and the cultural language of clothing says "cool, slick, laid-back hardass," which is just so weird on a character best described by "fun, friendly, doesn't take herself seriously at all."
I always thought that the ponytail she had in Gail's early run and a bit before (not exactly sure when) helped with that a bit. A ponytail just seemed more fun and laid-back somehow.
Of course this may be influenced by my annoyance with women in comics who fight crime with their hair down and blowing everywhere. It doesn't make sense, dammit! How do they see, and why doesn't some mook just grab their hair and pull?
