I forget which of the sleventy baskrillion short-lived superhero universes during the '90s came up with it, but one of them actually keyed into the idea that ALL of its characters' superpowers relied upon low-level reality manipulation (just in different forms for each character, and to degrees that they couldn't necessarily control), which would account for the ways in which their super-strength and super-speed powers didn't incur the real-world consequences that you might expect.
