My recollection was that he specifically wanted to use Hal and Ollie as some kind of second tier exam of DC. And he included Hal in that oddly clumsy conversation in Superman when he was just starting, the one where Superman talks about how 'exotic' Jade is. The idea was to use Hal as a lens through which to view Superman and his effects on people. (And I remember the Lanterns showing up on Krypton to question the build up of an armed fleet--Krypton IS an enemy, I guess.)
Still not sure what he's trying to say *here*. Blackest Night: Superman was *superb*, so what the heck? He just can't write about sextalk? Somebody forced him to say 'justice' 10 times an issue? I suppose it's notable that in both cases of his usage, though other people comment on Hal's sexual notoriety, Hal himself seems to think people are coming to overwrought conclusions.
