I remember reading an interview with the guys who wrote the Remo Williams books (another not-so-guilty pleasure), and the one of them had been stressing over fans criticizing him for making a mistake describing a gun in one book. They realized they were gonna get grief from fans any time this happened, so they decided to hell with it, and from then on they deliberately avoided making the guns in their books realistic at all. So they ended up with things like Harold Smith using a ridiculous single-use 1-calibre pistol to try to kill Remo, and so forth.
Great series of books, pity the comics (and that movie, ugh) never did them justice.
