OK spelling out the relevance of my example, it's about the hypocrisy. It's espousing a position that they will not follow themselves, it doesn't matter if it's Gore consuming the energy that would power a small country or if it's Limbaugh abusing Oxycontin while condemning drug abusers.
The second point that Objectivists and Libertarians object to is the forced altruism, which is of course not altruism but slavery. I may out of my own kindness give the last farthing to the poor, but it is another matter entirely when the government takes it. Perhaps a better example is the health reform bill under consideration, which Congress has specifically exempted themselves from. The humor here is the Objectivist HAS to consider the issue in real depth in order to come to their position. The easy non-reflective position is to stand there and let the government open your vein, that takes not thought, just the surrender to emotion.
