That's an interesting way to look at it. I remember Marz's Funeral Issue for Hal after Final Night. It's almost like everyone there was sanctifying a saint the way he was talked about, except by Batman of course. Marz (and DC) was probably just glad Hal was dead once and for all and out of the way, yet by making him save the entire solar system single-handily DC just made Hal look better again (though after the funeral issue the Hal as insane-villain meme became the norm again). All these "fixes" to Hal's legacy didn't help and then came Time Travelin Hal and then Hal becomes Spectre (written by Geoff Johns, of course) and then Rebirth. Ironically it was making Hal a mass murderer that caused him to come back because readers were unable to drop it, if he had just retired quietly Kyle would still be the main GL.
I like Kyle too. Now. Originally I hated him because of the way he was instantly thrown down our throats as the greatest thing since Swiss cheese but over time he's a character that has transcended his origins.
