To answer your points..Firstly..
"And I'll be standing over here, where I belong, standing between you and Gotham.." Oh wait a minute..Got side tracked. For a second there I somehow got reminded of some of the Batman Begins dialogue! (Damn, I think I've see that movie too many times!..)
Seriously though, to take your points in order (Or mostly in order..):- There are some comic boards where I've seen people who actually take issue with any impassioned rants against current Spiderman continuity, get inundated by personal insults, made to feel like a pariah, and sometimes even thrown off the boards.. (Or heck even be accused of being Joe Quasada under a different name!)
And having seen increasing behaviour here that seemed to be starting to go in that direction, (though thankfully not anywhere as serious as that..yet..)I was starting to worry that we'd eventually get to the point where that would indeed start being the norm around here.
And it was that behaviour that I was commentating on, as I would hate to see this site turn into a marvel comics variant on the 'George Lucas raped my childhood' type sites that used to pretty much justify the cliched image of the over the top, stereotypical fanboy. And yeah that kind of behaviour, if it is reaching those extremes, is in my opinion not a good thing. As at the end of the day these are just comics. There shouldn't be so much hate against fellow fans who just happen to like something different. And if this hate comes from people being just being upset at a split up between fictional characters, then that's just ridiculous.
I really, really didn't like the 'totem' stories or Sins Past. But I certainly wouldn't attempt to villify anyone who bought them, (Or for that matter call them a Marvel Zombie!) or try to make them feel ashamed of themselves for not joining some online campaign to boycott them. And yet I've seen that happen time and time again, over people who refuse to believe that Spiderman as a character has to be married to MJ to work.
Sorry but the character successfully existed for almost a good quarter of a century before that, with stories that were in my opinon a heck of a lot more fun. Now that might have been due to better writers, rather than a different status quo.(Especially given how writers contributions seemed devalued during the 90es, in favour of whatever hot artist was about..) But only time will tell, and I for the most part have been enjoying a lot of the recent stories more than about 90% of what I read over the last two decades in the Spiderman titles. So to me I'm enjoying it, thus far, and having people tell me that I'm supporting the devil every time I pick up a super hero comic book, I'm sorry but that is over the top. I didn't like OMD, but I'm liking the direction of Spiderman titles since then, and I shouldn't be getting people trying to make me feel ashamed of myself for enjoying a comic book, and it's that over the top zealous behaviour that I'm objecting to.
So please do not try to turn this into something it's not. The fact that you're suddenly saying 'refer to US', and that you'll 'be over here' seems to suggest that you are trying to draw segragating, dividing lines in groups of fans here. I didn't much care for most of the 90es issues era, but I don't look down on anyone that bought the clone saga. If they enjoyed it, good on them. I didn't and so I didn't buy the issues, and that was the end of it. When stories came up that I did like,(Mostly from J M Dematteis,)I bought them. I'm quite fond of the Hulk, but I don't really like Jeffe Loeb's take on the character, so I don't buy it. But if people who do buy it, enjoy the issues, well good for them.
So please tell me how that makes me some kind of marvel zombie? I'm actually arguing the same point that you're trying to make in your last statement. People should be able to buy & enjoy what they like, without getting insulted for it. That was the whole point of my post. If my language was over the top,(And I have already apologised for any offence that I might have caused there) then please understand that I was trying to emphasise the absurdity of this'us versus them'mentality that poisons the atmosphere of some comic boards. Sorry if you suddenly saw yourself belonging in some sort of category there.
