Sure, she wins against the Other Carol... and gets kicked out of the X-mansion by Beast and knocked back huge steps in her relationship with Rogue, the story ending on a melancholy regretful note as Carol accurately assesses herself as a dick, with no attempt or really opportunity to do anything about it. Traveler, yes, the best you can say is that it was victory-ish - he goes nuts and feeble not because of anything she does, but due to magic overuse, the Ms Marvel who manages to actually knock him around is basically an Other Carol, porting in from the future, and Warren isn't actually defeated, he escapes to a different dimension. Which even if you call it an exile, Strange did all the heavy lifting.
Although what Avengers rec's do ya have?
It's hard to go wrong with Busiek/Perez in general. The alcoholic fall from grace (early v3ish) was a bit clumsy, but the mirrored redemption during the Kang arc (starting around #40) was quite tasty, and while she never gets much of a spotlight outside of that, she's consistently cool on general principle through most of Busiek's run.
That's top-of-my-head; beyond that I'll have to go digging through v1 for you. Gosh, what a trial. >.>
