I have to admit I hate both the Tarantula arc and Devin Grayson's reaction to it. (First she says it's rape, then she says it isn't rape, it's non-consensual. Just dumb. Just. Dumb.)
But the thing is, there are a lot of 'only Nixon could go to China' moments in comics with creators. Only a female creator could make that statement and not get her eyes metaphorically gouged out by fans. Then again, only a male creator could make Dick Grayson into a model and not get dogpiled for fantasy-fulfillment stuff.
Only Gail Simone could have an entire storyline about the Amazons wanting babies. If a male creator, or even a creator without solid feminist credentials, did that they would be struck down by fans. And Devin Grayson should be thanking god right now that she isn't involved in the 'Justice League: Gay for Justice' project, or making Dick Grayson into Batman again, because oh my god she used to write slash fiction and admitted to it right out loud.
I used to get really upset about certain creators, so I can't really judge. Now, though, creator hate just makes me tired. I would love to have a nice talk about Devin Grayson or Frank Miller or Beechen or Winick without someone bombing in with relentless hate on every. single. thread.
