My point, and I DID go out of my way to stress that this should be a Nightwing only resolution (and not an overused one), is that this story could have been a chance for us to see how a plan that MIGHT work against Batman wouldn't work against Nightwing because he doesn't react like Bruce would. He's not afraid to call for help (and his friends would be furious with him if he didn't), and he is repeatedly pointed out as being the most trusted and well liked superhero aside from Superman, except in this arc.
But how often do people writing Nightwing really have him call his superfriends? Maybe a bit in recently, post Jones, or the odd cameo in Dixon's run... but by and large, (especially back when O'Neil was in charge... how I miss those days) the tone in the Batman books has long been that Gotham (and Bludhaven by extension) is pretty much its own little island universe. Calling the JLA, the Outsiders, the Titans, to solve a problem set up in a Batman Family book? Just not done.
