Man, I only just realized: Superboy Prime is to the 00's as Cyborg Superman is to the 90's.

Both are a twisted reflection of Superman, both are at the center of a massive comic crossover introducing them (although both had existed as minor character earlier), both get set up as this unstoppable force only to get knocked down and brought back every six months.
