The date, she finds out he's Spider-Man, gets kidnapped by villains a few times (The few times with Doom were really good, had her yelling a storm at Doom, pointing out a good deal of flaws in his plan and SOP). They even get married, and go through a lot of stuff dealing with how she fits with a guy with superpowers. Spider-Man becomes known as a person who breaks a barrier between different groups of people.
Now throw ALL OF THAT AWAY. And start repeating the same stories as before while calling it all new. Remember, Peter was a geek who got a super-model to settle down with him, not because he was rich or overly good looking. Even powers didn't matter. It was what he did. He choose to be a hero, and MJ respected and loved that of him.
