Return of the Shredder
From TMNT Adventures #20-22. This arc has it all. Giant Monster Warrior Dragon vs Foot Ninja Bot, Cyborg TV News Reporters, bad art (well for one issue), ironic death traps for Splinter, Raph joining back up with the group after a brief adventure in space, and of course the return of the Shredder.

Dial Uppers Beware!!

I felt like posting this my last little bit of honoring the Turtles 25th Anniversary. I know people are going to go O_O at the middle part of this, cause there's some real bad art to be had. Didn't really want to scan the issue, (the conclusion to this, #23 had such superior art showcasing the scene scanned in two pages. But image limits are limits. :(

So I apologize in advance for making you're eyes bleed. But I make up for it with a slam bam beginning to this arc, a giant Foot Ninja robot versus the Warrior Dragon (who debuted with this issue). For those wondering where Raph is, he's with the Mighty Mutanimals in their first big adventure. He left at the start of this issue. As for Shredder, he'd been gone for quite a long time, #13 to be exact. So this was his big return for the next couple issues.

So enough talk from me for now. Go crank up some Akira Ifukube kaiji music and enjoy:

As for what the entire point was to Shredder creating a Giant Foot Ninja Robot? His reason is found a few issues later which I posted here:

Now tracking the Turtles movements he finally attacks them when they least expect it. Right in the middle of battle with another supervillain, Vid Vicious. Again I apologize for the art:

Next now for the conclusion:

Oh and we never saw Vid Vicious again. The turtles find Shredder's hideout with a clue he left for them. They find a giant maze (oh irony) with Don in the center. Mikey finds Foot Ninjas, and April accidently bumps into Leo. It appears all three paths inside the maze lead nowhere. Splinter choses reaching Don via catwalk above. Of course as he realizes the truth to this path as well:

I really loved that exchange and this fight with Shredder and Splinter here. Also I SOOO heard Uncle Phil aka James Avery's voice as the Shredder and whomever voiced Splinter when I read this scene. Darn 80s toon. Plus the irony is hilarous with Splinter caught in a mouse trap. Anyway.. * le sigh* Raph returns to kick the snot out of the Shredder.

Honestly.. the dude's wearing a red hood, is green, and seems to hate the Shredder a lot. WHO ELSE CAN IT BE OTHER THAN RAPH!? In anycase, Raph reveals it's him. The TMNT are reunited again. But as they're all hugging Raph at being back, Shredder uses this time to escape.

Yeah a cliched end, but still fun stuff.

Never cared much for Naked Dragon.

As for the art in the middle issue, it wasn't so bad... especially when I was more a fan of the cartoon of the day, and it resembled that more so than the previous issue.

The last issue had the best art, though the coloring was a little off here and there. Particularly where Splinter's scarf and whiskers meet in Shredder's "Ha ha ha" frame.

And yes, I hear the same voices. XD

It's the hands in the middle issue is what bugs me. Vid and Shred's hands are so darn deformed.

TMNT really had some horrid art, often completely unexpectedly. One issue... decent. Next? Child-like scribblings. The Gene Colan art later on is kind of cool though.

Leo as a rabbi always cracks me up.

Did anyone had the Silver-Age Batman in your minds when you saw the Shredder towering over Splinter while he was trap in the giant mouse trap on the factory sign?
