Is Magneto really a bad person?

In Son of M #4 Luna is exposed to the Terrigen Mists, which gives her the power to "see a person's aura, which reflects their moods and innermost secrets."

And then, in Son of M #5...

I adore Princess Luna. Her power is so visual and her dresses rock.

Reminds me of Kitty's line when talking about Magneto "Most people just remember the terrorist, I remember the man who tried to change"

I was under the impression that was always the case. He was just venting all his person angst and suffering on the world. Many people do this, Mags just has the ability lay waste more of it.

Plus his powers drive him crazy, which makes sense because they've made it cannon that magnetism can mess up mental powers so it's only natural that having so much might mess up normal functions too.

hmm, well that idea seems to come and go. At one point Morna was supposed to have "cured" him of the troubles.

Meh, everyone's had their power disadvantages cured at somepoint, it never takes. Besides, it helps explain away Lorna's behaviours too. It's a multicharacter repairing explanation!

Around the time Malice--a psychic entity--possessed her. Polaris' powers affect psychic so much, they trapped Malice inside her for awhile.

Marvel already thought up that one... but good thinking.

This has always been my personal eye-roller with superhero comics:

"It's Likes-Rape Man! He murdered everyone in Cincinnati last week! Get him!"

"But he had a bad childhood and he's sad"

"Oh... Well, in that case, he can join our team."

The X-men are particularly bad about this. There's a joke that they let anyone who comes to the front door and asks join the team.

There is some rationale behind it, occasionally. Sentry is an Avenger not because they think he's blameless of the Void's (ongoing, ha ha) mass murder, but because they think its the best way to keep an eye on him and try and channel his power.

1)Terrorism and multiple attempts at Genocide are a-okay if you're "just very sad".
2) Little girls with bullshitty magic powers trump years of wanton destruction easily.

multiple attempts at Genocide

Except the only time Magneto did that (Planet X), it was promptly retconned for being horribly out of character.

Pretty sure he did that all the time with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Thought thats why Wolverine killed him and stuff.

He destroyed a Soviet submarine, with everyone on board. He knocked out all the electronics on Earth, killing anyone in an airplane or on life support. He murdered the guy who created the "Erick Lehnsherr" identity for him to cover his tracks. I like Magneto as much as the next guy, but he's more than just misunderstood.

He destroyed a Soviet submarine, with everyone on board.
After they tried nuking him.

He knocked out all the electronics on Earth, killing anyone in an airplane or on life support.
That was an indirect result of him disabling the Magneto Protocols, which the UN created to stop him from returning to Earth. It wasn't like he just did it for shits and giggles.

Plus, are we supposed to believe that the hospitals aren't prepared for the power going out? There are things such as generators, batteries and oxygen tanks.

Plus he then went on to destroy a Soviet village by erupting a volcano but made sure to give enough time for the populace to escape.

Still, for the Magneto protocols thing. I think a part of him actually thought he was going to die by trying this. Not to mention right before he prayed to God either to survive this or for what sins he was about to comitt I forgot which.

Plus there's the other time Magneto unleashed yet another EMP pulse during Magneto War. Course his claim to doing this was what the US did with Operation Zero Tolerance. Still with Astra destroyed the machine he did try to keep the EM fields steady which caused his powers to go on the fritz and Joseph had to sacrifice himself to repair the damage.

Still, with Magneto to his logic. You attack him or harm mutants' lives? You're gonna regret it, die, or both at the same time.
