The best Green Lantern?

So I picked up this one a week late, and my feelings toward it are still pretty neutral to negative, but I'm a sucker and it comes out on a light week so I'll prolly see it the whole way through. There was one really neat bit, the most fantastic Green Lantern ever.

Yes, no, maybe so?

I can't wait for the people who come lumbering in with the 'OMG I CAN'T BLEEVE TEHY REPLACD KYLE WITH A WHALE' thing as part of the continued 'Kyle is screwed over' BS.

When did a whale become a GL?

Not that it isn't incredibly cool. Now give me Robo-Octo-Sinestro-Ape.

I love how every post about this mini has to remind everyone of this somewhere. If I post any of #3 later this month I'll make sure that reminder's in the actual post!

It's been done before, hasn't it? Wasn't there a whale GL in that story where Kyle Rayner wakes up in the future as a member of a new Corp? (At the time, the Corp was extinct.)

RUFFLES IS A LASER-HAIRBALL-SPEWING QUIVERING BALL OF RAGE! SPACE-WHALE IS A FRIENDLY AND POETIC-SPEAKING GREEN LANTERN! TOGETHER, THEY'RE SPACE COPS, AND THEY FIGHT CRIME!

I bet there were several Japanese fishing fleets that shat bricks the day THIS fellow got the power ring.

Probably coincidental but it reminds me of a line in the Grant Moprrison self-insertion issue of Animal Man where he ponders; "Humans, who weep real tears over fictional aliens like ET, but allow genuine alien intelligences on Earth, like whales, to be turned into soap"

I'm mostly only picking this up out of lingering interest from his old Vertigo series (people go on and on about Morrison's run, but come on Delano's is where it's at!) and it hasn't been rewarding me much for it.
I'll prolly keep buying it because I'm a chump. :(

I'm probably being unfair to Animal Man, because I've never read any of his series, but when I first heard about it my reaction was "there are so many other characters who deserve an ongoing more than Animal Man!" =P

I'll prolly keep buying it because I'm a chump. :(

Don't feel bad. I bought all three issues of the recent Oracle and Batgirl mini-series, and they were pretty damn awful. At least this has a SPACE WHALE. =)

Yeah, but the solicits promise that what we have to look forward to is a mid-life crisis affair with Starfire. :/
Interestingly enough, if this were an ongoing instead of a mini, I'd probably have already dropped it! The only other thing I get that week is 'Tec (well, and Wednesday Comics starting this month), so I have a little extra pocket change to spend on dumb minis that aren't really going anywhere.

Wait, it was Animal Man's family that Starfire was staying with at one point, wasn't it? And his son tried to take a picture of her while she was sleeping? Yeah, that's awkward.

Interestingly enough, if this were an ongoing instead of a mini, I'd probably have already dropped it!

I think it makes a certain amount of sense. If you know there's only so many issues of a series that you have mixed feelings about, it's not as hard on your wallet or your sanity to stick with it until the end.

Well, thinking back I guess he did hang out with Starfire (and Adam Strange) a lot during 52, so I suppose it isn't without precedent, but to be honest I'd only read the Vic/Renee bits of that until I finally bought the first trade yesterday.

All right, so - why, exactly, is Buddy not latching on to the nearest bird's powers to allow him to fly to safety?
And yes, whale GL is pretty damn awesome. Next I want an octopus, please, with one ring for each tentacle.

Buddy's seemingly losing his powers due to contrivance. Later in the issue, he discovers that they've reverted to his early levels (only work with animals in proximity) when he does start flying with nearby birds.
