Golden Age Wonder Woman
These are from Sensation #13. Just two images.

Steve, there are support groups for this.

Also: a couple of weeks ago, someone commented saying that in Europe, only serious comic book nerds have ever even heard of Wonder Woman. This led to a spirited debate, and someone (was it you, [info]bluefall?) posted a few photos of non-nerd Europeans wearing costumes obviously based on the Amazing Amazon's.

Well, over the weekend, I was watching the British TV show Hustle. A British show, made by and for Brits. It's never even been aired over here, but you can rent it via Netflix, and I highly recommend it. Anyway, during one of the second season episodes, there's a brief scene where one character dresses in a costume that's just different enough from Wonder Woman to avoid copyright infringement. But it's obviously her. She's even deflecting bullets with her bracelets.

She looks like a mix of Wonder Woman and Sailor Moon.

I think it's fair to say that when it comes to comics, Britain != Europe. The language barrier (or rather, lack of it) makes Britain even more porous to american culture than the rest of us.

I'm fairly nerdy, but until I started reading american comics in earnest I had no idea who Wonder Woman was. Very few people would know who she was here. (Most could probably identify, Batman, The Hulk, Spider-Man and Superman and of course The Phantom, these being the most recognizable costumed heroes)

True that Brits are going to be more exposed to American culture because of the shared language, but still. I surveyed the Europeans on my F-list, and out of the 11 who answered, only one hadn't heard of her. The rest, none of whom were Brits, were surprised at the idea that anyone might not have. And while most of my LJ friends are nerds, none of the Europeans are comic book nerds.

You don't have to be. If you watch Simpsons or Family Guy or South Park or similar you'll probably catch up to who Wonder Woman is.

Yeah, the woo! woo! and the candy obsession can be a pain, but I still love Etta's cheerful heroicness and resourcefulness.

Yeah, that was me. Sometimes I suspect I've grown predictable.

As for the scans... all I can say is Etta has surprisingly nimble teeth.

Well, you're one of the biggest WW fans here.

You know, there's actually a lot of issues where someone unties someone else with her teeth. That must have been another fetish of Marston's.

I think it might be easier to count the fetishes he didn't have, really.

I think someone said last time that Steve looks like a Ken doll when Diana pushes him away?

Cool. The Hustle actress is rockin' that delt and bicep, and bullets 'n' bracelets is my favorite action shot.

I would have said the only way to get attention from Wonder Woman would be to knock over a convenience store, and then, while running away, yell 'OH, NO! I AM NOW A CRIMINAL, DRIVEN BY MY PLACE IN SOCIETY TO COMMIT DESPERATE ACTS! IF ONLY THERE WAS SOMEONE WHO WOULD TEACH ME LOVING SUBMISSION THROUGH THE USE OF CHAINS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TORTURE!' at the top of your lungs. But, different strokes for different folks, I guess.
