Since he became a TV news anchor, which he was for a considerable time in the seventies (and mentioned here in this story), and he was indeed a celebrity as a result. (There was even a story posted on the old s_d which featured a crowd of girls screaming over him.) In fact, that's why the editors eventually had him switched back to newspaper reporting: it was felt that with millions of Metropolis residents watching him every night, more than a few would notice his resemblance to Superman.
