I love that last freeze frame shot. I expect credits to flash over it.

Also love that Clark can tell the liquid in Ollie's stomach is truth serum just by looking at it.

Given his vision powers he can check molecular structure or everything in Ollie's system with a glance. This is pre-Crisis Superman, knows all, sees all.

Admit it, Clark. Even when Ollie isn't goofed up on truth serum, he's still a rude, arrogant schmuck. He frigging poured hot coffee on a guy's bald scalp.

I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike a character regardless of who writes him, but there you go. Was "totally unsympathetic jerk" part of his original character proposal to DC editors, or what?

Originally, he didn't really have characterization. He was just a rip-off of Batman, using Arrows instead of Bats. Then Denny O'Neill started writing him in JLA . . . and based his characterization on Hawkeye.

it's ok to hate Ollie; you love him or hate him, there is no in-between. me, I love the magnificent bastard.

Same. He makes me laugh, and that always counts for a lot when it comes to comic book characters.

Have no fear as we say "It's never just you". I've rarely known as character to so consistently set my teeth on eage so much.

Well, the guy IS trying to ruin his life and career, and almost caused him to ruin a friend's, so you can't blame him THAT much. It's a tad extreme, sure, but given that he's not going 'AAAAH, MY POOR SCALP!', one may assume that his coffee was tepid, anyway.

I don't know, it'd be a weird thing to order at a cafe.

MAN ONE: I'd like a cup of lukewarm coffee, please!

MAN TWO: Tall, large, or grande?

I am suddenly reminded of a post back in the old S_D where Connor Hawke had been hit by the sniper bullet and was fading fast trapped in the middle of the ocean with no possible way to get Connor to a hospital, Ollie reaches out for the seldom used miracle, and at the top of his lungs cries out "Clark!" as Dinah and Speedy try to see what they can do with the small medicine kit on the boat, everyone desperate to keep Connor alive.

And we find out just how powerful Superman is. Halfway around the world, Clark Kent is sitting in the Daily Bugle. Above all the noise in the world, with hearing beyond the speed out sound, Clark Kent of Kansas hears the desperate cry of his friend and within moments grabs Connor and flies off, like the voice of God himself saying "I'm here Ollie" and swoops up Connor to the neatest hospital.

Ollie sinks back and whispers a thank you, and I hold back manly tears.

That was a beautiful moment in an otherwise mediocre to poor story. Winick seems to be good at that (for example the scene with Superman revealing his identity to Billy Batson in 'Superman/Shazam: First Thunder').

"Daily Bugle?" Was J Jonah trying to do some headhunting?

JJJ: Well Kent, You have a snappy writing style, but I think you like those underwear guys too much. Tell you what, do an expose on Wonder Woman's kinky side and you got the job!

Ollie, if you expect to protect your identity, start with the fucking beard. Seriously, is that a common Star City style and does he think that mask works? It's an even worse disguise than Clark's.

I love when Mia first meets Ollie and says exactly the same thing. He's all 'The Green Arrow's told me this and that about you, we're good friends.' and Mia just points out that what with the beard, the tiny mask and the fact that he uses the same voice both in and out of costume she'd have to have been dropped on the head quite a few times as a child not to see right through that.

I remember in NEW FRONTIER, the beardless Arrow(whose identity was slightly safer) actually provided an explanation, that to keep his ID safe he had to stay local.

Oh yeah, that makes lots of sense. Because people you're around all the time(and you're the richest and most prominent man in your city) will be much less likely to know you.

GA wants to hide his identity like Donald Trump wants to keep a low profile. The truth is that, at least subconsciously, Ollie has a big "ME ME ME" side and wants EVERYone to know it's him.

Same thing with He-Man and his "secret" identity, Prince Adam. He-Man doesn't even wear a mask (or glasses, like Clark Kent), and his hairstyle and build are identical to Adam's. The only difference between the two identities is the voice. Even as a young kid I wondered how Teela and the others couldn't see through that.

Nice to see some George Tuska stuff. I liked his work on Iron Man in the late '70s.

I'm not sure what to think about Mr. Edge's cigarette holder. An odd affectation for the era to be sure.

Such a classic. And yes, Ollie is the only hero I know who can be such a lovable bastard.
