I think your analogy is flawed - I mean, it's a valiant effort, but this is copyright infringement, not superheroics or government insurrection. It's important to remember that we're not crusaders; we're having fun. Whenever we try and cast ourselves as crusaders, we get a lot of the rest of the comics community annoyed as hell as us, so it's not a good idea! I mean, I don't spend a lot of time on other forums, but that doesn't mean I don't want there to be goodwill between all peoples, etc, especially since general uproar might make the difference between a publisher choosing to move or not move against us in the future.
Now, okay, I guess we disagree over the idea of what is or isn't an admission of wrongdoing, so let's move on from that. More pertinently, Marvel's been increasingly litigious and has successfully shut down sites and sharing networks far harder to get into than s_d ever could be at this point in time, even taking the Hydra approach. And, taking the Hydra approach, we're going to be constantly losing bits and pieces of the community that makes us, us.
I don't want to speak to much in public about what the possibilities are for the future because there are a number of options - including Hydra, actually; we haven't ruled it out entirely! - still in the offing, but we do have some ideas rumbling about, and we are very aware of the need to balance legality and the community's ... innate personality, I guess you could say. Its s_dness. ;)
